Rationale

As a result of the major events in world politics over the past four years, transatlantic relations have once again become a central theme in debates, dialogues, newspapers, and beyond. We at TIESWeb have decided that it is an opportune moment to launch an essay competition among our young readers (30 and under) in order to ask them about their vision of the future of transatlantic ties.

The subject is “How do you envision transatlantic relations in the year 2020?” You can focus on any one aspect of the transatlantic relationship (political, cultural, economic, social, security related) but be sure to frame your argument in a more general context, that explains the overall reasons that brought you to your conclusions. There are no right or wrong answers to the question. We want good prospective analyses, well written documents that conform to the conditions of the competition, based on sound facts and trends that exist today. It is very important that you explain why you believe the future of transatlantic relations will evolve according to your paper’s scenario.

This competition is in four languages (English, French, German and Spanish) and will include participants from the US and the EU. Please apply yourself in writing these papers as the judges will be interested in the form and expression as much as in the content.

Remember any document that is not in conformity to our rules will be automatically disqualified.
