"Frank
Plantan, Co-Director of the International Relations
Program at the University of Pennsylvania, began
the conference by welcoming the TIESWeb Transatlantic
Citizen Marathon to their Philadelphia stop at
the University of Pennsylvania. He commented that “A ‘United
States of Europe’: Friend or Foe” was
a bold title, and that while he believed the transatlantic
relationship was not as bleak as the media would
like us to believe, the following conference may
prove his assessment wrong..." Read

Dear Mr. Biancheri, it was an absolute pleasure meeting you yesterday and I was
most fascinated by your discussion at Demos. As I mentioned, I work on issues
related to democracy
and electoral reform and would be interested in finding ways to become involved
in your various transatlantic and EU endeavors. .... I would be particularly
interested in potential comparative work on the issue of EU and American elections
and lessons that may be learned.

The Foreign Policy Research Institute was pleased to co-sponsor Europe 2020’s
TIESweb Transatlantic Marathon EU/US relations at the University of Pennsylvania
and we look forward to other opportunities for collaboration in the future.
Participants at our meeting felt that there is a clear need to create more
opportunities for engaging the American public in a dialogue about the future
of Europe and the need to renew and strengthen the transatlantic partnership
so we can meet the challenges of 21st century. The success of our Town Meeting
has led us to develop a plan for a simul-conference between Paris and Philadelphia
on the prospects and perils of EU constitution for later this spring. This
is the start of a beautiful partnership and we want to thank Franck Biancheri
and Europe 2020 for including us in this important initiative. Read more

John Gllingham
Franck Biancheri has devoted his career
to proselytizing for European union.
The Europe he believes in is not, however
the EU in its present configuration,
but something democratic, operationally
transparent, and responsible to the
public. Franck’s plea is both
thoughtful and timely, It should be
listened to.

The TIESWeb Transatlantic
Marathon brought European freshness to
Harvard campus. The audience - students,
scholars and professors - was surprised,
challenged and stimulated by the views
of Franck Biancheri. The Kennedy School
of Government in Harvard University is
looking forward for a new TIESWeb or
Newropeans event!
