is very happy and proud to present you the main features of the
third edition of the Transatlantic Citizens Miami Week which will
be organized on April 3rd till April 8th 2006.
Florida International
University, Miami Dade College and the University of Miami will
be the main venues for the 3rd conference's events which will include
for the first time a ‘Tiesweb Transatlantic Students Conference’
(April 3rd/April 5th), followed by a series of brain-storming sessions
gathering experts from both sides of the Atlantic.
The students’
conference conclusions will namely be used as inputs for the experts
debates and both events will have their respective closing and opening
coincide.
The students’
conference, which will gather 200 US and EU students will focus
on three core topics:
· The
importance of a “Global citizen” and the relevance of
cross-cultural understanding.
· The
consequences of a continuing reduction in Trans-Atlantic exchanges
of students (may address economic, political and cultural consequences)
· The
relationship between decreased quality and availability of humanities
education in middle and high schools and decreased interest in educational
exchange; and the mutual relationship between these factors and
the public demand for a more internationally inclusive media.
Its deliverables
will include sets of proposals for EU and US decision makers and
projects aiming directly at the Transatlantic student and academic
worlds.
The three simultaneous
sessions of the ‘Transatlantic Citizens 2020 Conference’
will gather 30 participants each, coming from NGOs, universities,
local authorities, companies and governments. They will elaborate
Transatlantic strategies and proposals on the three following issues,
identified at the occasion of the two previous Miami Weeks:
. Education
: Building a Transatlantic Higher Education Dimension for the Next
Decade
. Atlantic
Rim : Setting up an Atlantic Rim Agenda (Culture, Education, Business,
...)
. Middle East
2020 : Alternative Routes for a peaceful Middle East (scenarios,
...).
Around these
two core components, the 3rd Transatlantic Miami Week will host
several cultural and social events, organized in partnership with
Miami and Florida organizations and with the support of local students
and partners.
