INTRODUCTION
Education is the core investment in our societies
future. Today, on both side of the Atlantic,
educationnal issues are becoming a growing concern.
The new US President put it as his top-priority
followed by a large popular consensus that this
ought to be; and in Europe, both the Member-States
and the EU are trying to cope with the huge
consequences of both the new technologies and
the very changes of education as a social process.
Meanwhile, both areas (and this is new for the
US), are getting more and more aware that international
education (whether it starts at school level
with language teaching, geography and history;
or whether it addresses higher education issues
as training global-class managers) is becoming
a crucial issue for our countries' future.
The recent
renewal of the EU-US higher education and training
agreements, the first week on 'International
Education' organised in the US, the new initiatives
as EU-StudentVote
in the EU are showing these new aspects.
Meanwhile core debates are going on on both
side of the Atlantic on the evolution of schools
and high-schools, on the role and nature of
the primary and secondary education as well
as the role of the educator at the time of Internet.
All those elements definitely support the idea
to have a kind of common look at a common issu
addressed so differently on each side of the
Atlantic.
