Education in a Transatlantic Context:
The New Intellectual Challenge
The conference is a one-day seminar gathering
teachers, professors, experts and students to
assess the current shortcomings and strengths
of international education in Europe and the
USA. The goal of the seminar is to produce a
set of recommendations for improving the situation.
Speakers will provide short introductory statements
followed by panel discussion.
In
a globalized world, where both Europe and the
United States are playing international roles,
an enhanced understanding of international issues
is crucial to accommodate information and values
coming from abroad. Without doing so, the fabric
of our societies is at stake because democracy
only works properly when citizens can make informed
policy choices. Language proficiency and international
exposure (direct or indirect) are becoming key
assets in the constantly widening range of careers.
Therefore, international education is central
to future prosperity and freedom.
